John L. Young, M.D., Resigns from ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Board of Regents
Adelphi, Md. (Feb. 25, 2013) -- John L. Young, M.D., has resigned from the University
System of ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø (ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø) Board of Regents, citing the need to devote more time
to other activities. His resignation was effective February 21, 2013.
"It
has been a tremendous experience and opportunity to work with the Board of
Regents and the ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Office," said Young. "I wish the university system
continued success in the future."
A Montgomery County resident, Young began his term on
the board in July 2009. He served on the board's Committee on Education Policy
and Student Life and Committee on Economic Development and Technology
Commercialization. He also was a member of the board's Intercollegiate
Athletics Workgroup.
"We are very grateful to John for his contributions to
the board and the ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø," said Board Chairman James L.
Shea. "We will certainly miss him."
"We will miss John's presence," said ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø Chancellor
William E. Kirwan. "But given his dedication and commitment to advance the
university system and its role in advancing the state, we know that he will
continue to be a strong ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø advocate."
The Board of Regents is the governing body of the
ϡȱÁÔÆæÍø, which comprises 12 institutions and two regional
centers. The board's 17 volunteer members are appointed by the governor.
Governor Martin O'Malley will appoint a new member to the seat vacated by
