Regardless of where classes take place on PGCC campus after 5 PM When students apply to college they often dont have the words to describe the programs they participated in. At Bowie, we have 80% retention from the program Students dont know how to study. We teach them how through a program called reading dynamics Question: Do you have problems with attendance: Students have to pay to attend the program. We keep the program very structured. They sign policies and procedures. No cell phones are allowed. Zero tolerance, play good cop and bad cop. At TU- provide academic, social and financial support Students see it as part of an elite program How do you plan on sustaining these programs when the grant funds run out? NACME program pays tuition, if that goes, student can pay tuition. How do you track progress? Mid-semester evaluation is our early alert program. Goal is to keep students in STEM major. How do you get the word out about these programs and their success? A common theme is a cohort-based learning community. Peer tutors, mentors, and RAs. Idea to explore the impact of being a peer mentor. This can demonstrate success of the program. Tracking students as they go to other institutions is a challenge Helping students adjust to decreasing support is important.
